This Puzzle consists of two parts and you must do both of them.

PART 1: You are in death valley and out of water. A little old man with a strange cloak and a sickle offers to give you either:

  • 50 ml bottle of chilled water (forty degrees F) or
  • 100 ml bottle of unchilled water (one hundred and ten degrees F)

Unfortunately neither bottle of water is drinkable. Which bottle do you take and why? Show all of your work.

PART 2: In a hydrogen atom a 2p electron is harder to remove than a 4s electron. Give an example where a 4s electron is harder to remove than a 2p electron.
